What is a Southern Girl?
It’s a State of Mind!
You can be from Texas, Georgia, Alabama, or even a Yankee, it's all in the packaging.
You don't have to born in the South to have a true Southern Soul; you only have to be open to the idea.
I have put together a few simple rules to follow to help you on your journey.

1. Always Be Gracious;

No matter what, if someone offers you a glass of Iced Tea say “Thank You” even if you are not thirsty or hate Tea. Be sure to reciprocate that kindness and offer your guests something to drink or eat when they come to visit you.

2. Always Mind Your Manners;

"Please" and "Thank You" are a must, You get much more with Honey than you do with Vinegar. You should also follow a request by name with "Yes Ma'am/Sir" and "No Ma'am/Sir", not what; this should be practiced with anyone older than you or you.

3. When A Stranger Asks "How Are You?" Always Answer With;

Fine Thank You and Yourself, And Mean It. Show true interest in what that person has to say. It is sad that we have become a society where everyone wants to use text messaging because they only want to give out snippets of information and not carry on a conversation. How can we grow and learn anything if not from the wisdom of others.

4. Always Look Someone In The Eye When You Are Talking To Them;

In The South if you cannot look someone in the eye than we take it that you are hiding something; your eyes always tell the truth.

5. The Thank You Wave;

When you are driving and someone lets you into their lane be sure to Wave "Thank You" so that they know they are appreciated. Be sure to return that favor and let someone ahead of you in traffic, if being courteous causes you to be late than maybe you need to rethink your schedule and leave a little earlier for your journey.

6. Always Talk To Strangers;

In the supermarket, Gas Station, Drive Thru Window, on the Street. I know this goes against everything you were taught as a child. When you come into contact with someone else ask them "Hi, How Are You Doing? And you might be surprised by the answers that you get.

7. No Matter What Be Polite;

Always put on a Smile, you can think what ever you like on the inside. Kill them with kindness. I always say that if I am smiling and quiet that means that I am thinking bad thoughts on the inside, but you would never know from my demeanor.

8. Never Show Up To A Party Empty Handed;

Always bring something whether it's a pie, cookies or flowers. This lets that person know that you’re thinking about them and took the time and effort to bring something. It can even be as simple as a bottle of wine or Homemade Iced Tea.

Just remember as long as you are charming and make your people feel that they are truly fascinating, and you have no other place that you would rather be than talking to them than you are on the right track.
