With it being Thanksgiving this week I'm going to be making some of my favorite recipes.

Follow up:

The first and most important is the Turkey.

It's the guest of honor, without the turkey what do you have? Just a table full of sides and dessert, which is still delicious, but just not the same.

My first Turkey that I made years ago was so confusing; I didn't know what I was doing. I was in Phoenix and this was my first Thanksgiving meal ever and I was getting cooking instructions from both my mom and Micah's dad.

My mom said "Make sure you use a Turkey bag and leave it alone"

Micah's dad said "No leave it uncovered and be sure to baste it every 20 to 30 minutes"

So I did both, after about an hour I thought I was in the clear until my Mom asked about the bag of "Parts". I said my Turkey didn't have, actually it did I just looked down the wrong hole. Needless to say I cooked the Turkey innards and all and we didn't get food poisoning, it was a good day!

Over the years I have developed my own way to cook turkey, my family enjoys it and I hope that you will too.

Ingredients :

1/4 Cup Cabella's Whiskey Steak Seasoning
2 tsp Poultry Seasoning
1 Cup Packed Brown Sugar
1/2 Sweet Onion
1 Garlic Clove
1/4 Cup Olive Oil
1 Tbsp Crystallized Ginger
4 Cups Chicken Broth
13 Pound Fresh Turkey
1 Turkey Bag

1. Get out a large Roasting Pan.

  • You can also use the metal disposable turkey Roaster.

2. Mix together Whiskey Steak Seasoning, Poultry Seasoning and Brown Sugar together in a medium sized bowl.

  • Set Aside.

3. Get your turkey out of the Fridge and set in the sink.

4. Rinse turkey with cold water in the sink.

5. Remove the clamp that holds the legs together.

  • It can be either plastic or metal.

6. Once the legs are free reach your hand inside the Turkey and pull out a small brown bag.

  • This contains all of the parts, such as heart, and kidneys.
  • Yuck! I throw this away.

7. Now turn your Turkey around and reach inside the other hole and pull out the neck.

  • I throw this part away too.

8. Rinse the turkey with cold water again, including the inside.

  • Pour Olive Oil onto the Turkey and rub onto the skin.

9. Get out the Large Turkey Bag and put it into the Roasting Pan.

  • Open up the bag wide.
  • Put the Turkey in the bag.

10. Take Sweet Onion and cut in half.

  • Peel Garlic Clove and cut in half.

11. Put Onion and Garlic into the inside of the Turkey.

12. Get your Brown Sugar Mixture and rub all over the Turkey Skin.

  • Make sure to get all over including the wings and legs.
  • Put the extra inside of the Turkey.
  • Add the Ginger to the inside of the Turkey.

13. Pour Chicken Broth into the bag keeping it on the bottom.

  • Don't pour it over the Turkey or all of the seasoning will come off.

14. Close the bag.

  • The bag should came with a special plastic Twisty Tie.
  • Make sure to close it tight to keep the moisture in.
  • Notice the plastic piece in the back, with the red dot?
  • This is the thermometer, it will pop out when the Turkey’s done.

15. Make sure to move the oven racks as low as possible.

  • Put Turkey on the bottom rack and cook at 350 degrees.
  • The amount of time depends on the weight , be sure to follow the time table listed on the Turkey packaging.
  • I cooked mine for 3 hours.
  • It's done when the thermometer pops out.

16. Once cooked take out of the oven and let cool for about 20 minutes.

  • Carve and Enjoy!
