What a great Christmas idea! It does take some time for drying so be sure to make it in advance.

There are so many things that you can do with this clipboard just by choosing different paper. You can add different embellishments to personalize it with flowers, or letters to add someone’s name; or you can use paper with a specific theme or team logo. I like the paper with different sayings, especially for girls. For a boy you can use sports paper like basketball or soccer. They even have military themed paper to send to a loved one overseas.

The best part is that it's made by you and the person that receives this gift will love it even more. Each board has its own personality. You can make a bunch of them and pass them out for a teacher’s gift from your kids. Or maybe give to give to your kids in college with their school logo. The ideas are endless, use your imagination you might surprise yourself.

These are several different boards that I recently made for a Craft Fair; all so different, yet so cute.

Follow up:

Items Needed:

1 Wooden Clipboard
2 Pieces of Scrapbook Paper
Mod Podge
Ribbon
Hot Glue & Gun
Sponge Stick
Plastic Bowl
Large Trash Bag
Cardboard Box
Ruler

1. Put you Trash Bag on a table or counter.

  • Put you Clipboard on top of the Trash Bag.
  • Make sure to remove any price tags from the Clipboard .

2. Get your 2 pieces of Scrapbook Paper Ready.

  • You’ll need to cut off the bottom of the paper where the name is at.

3. First We're going to cover the back side.

  • Lay the clipboard on top of the paper.
  • Make sure the paper is upside down so that you don't mark on the good side where the design is.
  • Trace around the edge of the clipboard onto the paper.
  • This is the pattern so you know where to cut.

4. Cut the paper along the lines that you marked.

  • You'll end up with two strips from the sides, set them aside.

5. There are two ways to glue the paper to the board; this is the Glue Method.

  • Use a glue stick and put glue over the entire back side of the clipboard.
  • You'll need to work fast because this glue dries really fast.

6. Attach the paper to the Clip board.

  • The paper doesn’t come all the way down.
  • You’ll need to use one of the extra strips and add it to the bottom of the board.

7. Pour some Mod Podge into a plastic Bowl.

8. Dip a Sponge Brush into the Mod Podge.

  • A sponge brush is a square sponge on a plastic stick that you can find in the paint section at the craft store.
  • Brush the Mod Podge onto the paper in even lines.
  • Make sure to cover the entire side.
  • Let it dry for about an hour.

9. Once the Back is Dry turn the board over so you can start the front.

  • Line the paper up just below the clip.
  • Turn the clipboard over.
  • Make sure the paper is upside down so that you don't mark on the good side where the design is.
  • Trace around the edge of the clipboard onto the paper.
  • This is the pattern so you know where to cut.
  • Cut the paper along the lines that you marked.
  • You'll end up with two strips from the sides, keep them.

10. This time we will use the Mod Podge method to attach the paper, you can use whichever you find easier, I like this method better than the glue.

  • Dip a sponge brush into the Mod Podge.
  • Brush the Mod Podge onto the Clipboard in even lines.
  • Make sure to cover the entire side.
  • Attach the Paper to the Mod Podge.

11. Use a Plastic Ruler and run it along the paper to get all of the lumps and wrinkles out .

  • Don't use a ruler with a metal edge, this will tear the paper.

12. Use your extra strips of Paper on the sections beside the clip.

  • Cut out Paper in the shape that you need and glue to the Clip Board using the same method as above.

13. Dip a sponge brush into the Mod Podge.

  • Brush the Mod Podge onto the paper in even lines.
  • Make sure to cover the entire side.

14. Let it dry for about an hour.

  • You can set it on a plastic bowl to help it dry.

15. Add a strip of Ribbon on the bottom so you can hide the seam where the extra paper is.

  • Attach the strip with Hot Glue and cover with Mod Podge.
  • Let the finished board dry for 24 to 48 hours.

Tada! Now you have a Sock Monkey Clipboard.
